New York City’s Uniform is the spirit and sound of 80’s hardcore wrapped in the heavy industrial metal sound of bands like Ministry. Vocalist Michael Berdan and guitarist/programmer Ben Greenberg create a sound that when manic is pure chaos, and when slowed and blackened feels like the kind of gnawing, bottom-of-the-barrel depression capable of smothering and suffocating. If Black Flag or Bad Brains were getting there start today they wouldn’t be mimicking decades-old, safe structures and sounds—they very well might be making the kind of basement, bar and club destroying stuff Uniform is turning out. This is the soundtrack to coming face to face with Travis Bickle from Taxi Driver in an abandoned NY subway tunnel and sweating, wondering if he’s going to ask you to pie and coffee or pistol-whip you to death in a fever of psychosis.
